GWE design, manufacture and install a full range of straight, dogleg, spiral and helical staircases. All designs are carried out in accordance with relevant standards and building regulations.
In many cases the appearance of a staircase is unimportant and its purpose may be purely functional, for example a simple fire escape. On the other hand, appearance may be critical and a staircase may feature as a key element in a themed design, in which case appearance is every bit as important as functionality. We have the experience to create unique designs that are compatible with interiors and exteriors of various styles and architectures.
Materials used in construction depend largely on the application, although sometimes personal preference is the main criteria. Usually for internal use, the structure will be mild steel with mild steel or timber handrails. Infill panels may be toughened glass, wrought iron scrollwork, railings or perforated panels. Treads may be pre-cast concrete, timber or plate materials. A powder coat finish is usually suitable for internal use, however, modern developers tend to specify stainless steel with toughened glass, thereby reducing the long- term need for maintenance. For external applications we recommend that mild steel elements be galvanised before powder coating.
